Internet Marketing Explained

Definition of Internet Marketing and How to Use It to Build Your Home Business
Definition of Internet Marketing:
The most basic explanation of Internet marketing is any sort of advertising, promotion, or marketing tactic used online. This includes promotional websites, email marketing, and social media.
The goal of Internet marketing includes:
  • Communicate a company's message about itself, its products, or its services.
  • Conduct research as to the nature (demographics, preferences, and needs) of existing and potential customers.
  • Sell goods, services, or advertising space over the Internet.
Sometimes someone may tell you they have an Internet marketing business, but unless they offer services to help people market online, that's not exactly true. Internet marketing is simply another avenue for promoting your business the same as off-line tactics.
Why Market Online
For a time, the Internet was seen as a novelty and while some innovative businesses used it to promote their products and services, most existing businesses ignored it. Today however, ignoring the Internet in growing your business would be a fatal mistake. Consumers use the Internet to find information and resources, and if you're not there, they won't find you. Even if you have a local business listed in the Yellow Pages, odds are your customers will still go to the Internet before their phone book.
Marketing online has many other benefits including:
  • Affordability: Many online marketing strategies are free (i.e. social media marketing) or very low cost.
  • Reach: This is especially true if you business doesn't have to be limited to your local area. The Internet reaches around the world.
  • Always working: The Internet never sleeps. Night owls can learn about your business and even buy from you even while you're sleeping.
  • Focus in on your target market. It's easy to find your target market online so you can save time and money on marketing strategies to speak directly to your most likely buyers.
Internet Marketing Strategies
When it comes to marketing online, you have many choices. Here are just a few options:
  • Website/Blog: Every business should have a website or blog. It can be an online storefront, or at the very least a hub that potential clients and customers can find to learn about and contact you.
  • Search engine marketing (SEM): While you don't want to rely solely on search engines to deliver potential clients and customers to your website, you don't want to ignore it either. SEO is an easy way to help search engines list you so your market can find you. Or you can pay to have your site highlighted on search engines.
  • Email: Every business should have an email list. It's the best way to stay in touch and build a relationship with your prospects and customers.
  • Social media: Consumers use social media to learn about your products and services, find great deals, get help and more. Social media marketing is an excellent way to find your market and build a relationship with it.
  • Guest writing: Writing articles or guest blog posts is a free way to get in front of someone else's market and show off your expertise.
  • Affiliate programs: Offering compensation to others who promote your products and services on your behalf is not only affordable (you only pay when you have results), but also a great way to exponentially spread the word. Instead of you just you promoting, you'll have a team of sales people.
  • Paid advertising: There are many options for getting your ads online including text or banner ads on other websites, advertising through other websites' email lists, and pay-per-click promotions (i.e. Google Adwords or Facebook Ads).
Anytime you can get your message in front of your market is good. One goal many people hope for when marketing online is to create a viral marketing campaign.Great blog content, videos and social media that have visual interests are some of the best options for encouraging sharing.

What is Website Promotion?

Information and How-To on Website Promotion

What is Website Promotion?

Website promotion is a collection of tactics, actions and techniques that serve to drive traffic (visitors) to your website.

Why is Website Promotion Important?

Websites offer a multitude of benefits. For some online entrepreneurs, they are storefronts selling goods. Others earn income through advertising, sponsorships and affiliate marketing. Others are marketing tools in and of themselves, providing information about the business and how to best get in touch for services.
While all these website options work, they only fulfill their purpose if people visit them. If you think of a website like a storefront, that store doesn't make money unless someone walks in and buys. If a website is like an online magazine (such as a blog), it only makes money if people visit and buy from advertisers. As a marketing tool, websites deliver information about your business only if they know about it and visit it.
Web promotion is how online businesses get the word out about the website. The more targeted traffic (visitors who fit your target market) a website receives, the better the chance of making sales, earning ad income and gaining clients.

How is Website Promotion Done?

There are endless ways to promote your website, and new methods continue to arrive. Websites can be promoted in a variety ways both online and off.
Online Website Promotion
Anything that allows you to include your website URL can be considered promotion including an email signature line or participating in online forums.
Here are a few common website promotion tactics:
Offline Website Promotion
Some offline website promotion techniques include:

Best Practices for Website Promotion

The ideas listed above are not the only strategies you can use to promote your website. Because there are so many different ways you can market your website, it can get overwhelming. Further, without a plan your promotional efforts can be a waste of time. As you prepare to market your website, here are few things to do and keep in mind.
  1. Know your target market. Your goal isn't just in getting as much traffic to your site as possible. A million visitors means nothing if none of them are interested in what you offer. Knowing and understanding your target market will allow you to focus your marketing efforts on those activities that put your message in front of your most likely visitor in a way that entices them to visit.
  2. Use search engine optimization strategies, but don't rely on search engines alone to deliver traffic. Making it easy for search engines to understand, index and rank your site is a no-brainer. It's free and not that hard to do. At the same time, you don't need to spend a fortune in SEO services or hours and hours studying SEO. Checking your website stats and keywords every month or so will help you understand how people are using search engines to find your site and other information in your business area.
  1. Promote where your market hangs out. If your market isn't on Twitter, you don't need to tweet. When considering how and where to promote, think about where your market turns to get similar information and resources related to what you offer. This isn't just other websites or social networks, but also, offline sources such as groups and print media.
  2. Hook your market with a message that speaks to them. That means opening with a hook that entices and intrigues your market. It should be benefits oriented in that it promises to solve a problem, improve life, or be entertaining. The better your promotional copy, the better and bigger the results on your marketing campaign.
  3. Track your efforts. You'll save time and money if you know what promotions are delivering results and which aren't.

5 SEO Affiliate Programs To Monetize ANY Blog

SEO, or search engine optimization, is a fancy term for making sure people can find your website. As most online experiences begin with a search engine, it is absolutely crucial to make sure that your site is on top of those search engine results pages. This is where a good, solid SEO strategy comes in.

The SEO industry was valued at more than USD $16 billion in 2010. That's not surprising, as more and more online businesses realize the huge impact SEO has on sales.
As a niche, SEO is as competitive and challenging. The keywords below show exactly how stiff the competition is:
Search Engine Optimization - Affilotools Search Results
There are information keywords that have low competition, like "how to do search engine optimization," "about search engine optimization," and so on. They have monthly search values of about 1,000. That's not as high as the other search values in this niche, but you can add these keywords to your list as a start.
You'll have to be very creative in your niche and keyword research to get some really good keywords in. You can post articles about the newest trends and methods in the world of SEO and target those topics as keywords. There's always Ubersuggest.org to give you variations.
SEO B - Ubersuggest.org Results  SEO F - Ubersuggest.org Results

This won't really be a problem if your site isn't on the SEO niche. But these keywords are still worth taking note of if you'll promote one or two SEO products on your site as a supplement to something else.

SEO Affiliate Programs

There are plenty of SEO affiliate programs in the ClickBank Marketplace under the e-Business and e-Marketing category. You'll find about 7 pages worth of SEO and SEO-related products to promote, with most of the commissions at 50 percent per sale. You could earn anything from $18 per sale up to $800.
There are even more options available when you go online, but the commissions are mid-range with various commission structures. There's also different kinds of programs: SEO plugins for CMS platforms like WordPress, link-building services, submission services, etc.
Since there's plenty to go through, take your time in choosing which ones to promote on your site. Think about what specific SEO services you'll recommend and whether they are the real deal. Get in touch with the affiliate managers and ask for a trial if possible. You can go into SEO forums or SEO blogs and check which ones are being recommended or talked about and which ones have a strong following.
Below are some SEO affiliate programs I picked from online and ClickBank. These are not necessarily the best programs to promote, but they are representative of the varied options you will see in this niche.

Not including those found in ClickBank, the SEO affiliate programs discussed here are managed by their respective vendors and founders.

Building Links to Your Site

Now that you've got the SEO products to promote, you can go ahead and build the site. But before you do, look at various link-building and inbound marketing methods you can use to drive traffic to your site. The SEO niche is a highly competitive niche. Having your own marketing strategy early on will help you transition easily from site-building to link-building.

Forum and Blog Commenting

There are plenty of SEO forums that you can participate in to promote your site and any program you recommend. Forums in other niches also touch on SEO even though their niche isn't tech-based at all (think muscle building or self-help). This is because there are people who want to put up their own sites in these niches and they would like to know how to go about doing it, which products to go with and all that.

Kindle Marketing

This is a good inbound marketing method if you're into the SEO niche. You can create a small e-book on SEO, like a primer for beginners, then refer them to a page on your site that promotes an SEO affiliate program.
The best thing here is you can make the e-book free, or charge a small fee (think $0.99) for every download on Amazon. I would rather make it free (because we all love freebies), but if your content is really good, then charge each download. That's another source of income for you.
You can still do this method even if your site is based on a different niche. If you are in the weight loss niche, you can create a small e-book on exercises and diet plans for a slimmer tummy. Then refer them back to your site for more information. You won't be able to promote SEO products here, unless your e-book is about how the various ways to promote your weight loss site (which isn't a bad idea at all once your site has moved further along).

Reverse Engineering

This method is one worth trying out especially in a competitive niche.
It can be difficult to look for websites where you can build your links. With reverse engineering, you look at your competitor site's backlinks, and build links on the same sites. The links from these sites, coupled with backlinks you've built on other sites, will give your site a helpful boost over your competition.

SEO Affiliate Programs: Is it Worth the Effort?

I wasn't kidding when I said that you can monetize any blog with these SEO affiliate programs and others. If you have a blog, then you can pick from any of the above and recommend it on your site as your SEO service of choice.
If you have a website on weight loss, fashion, wellness... you name it, you can monetize it with one or two SEO affiliate programs. This might seem to completely throw out the rule book, since you're only supposed to recommend products within and related to your site's niche. But once you have your site up and running, there will be people who will be interested in how you got the site built and what you're using to get ahead of the competition. Why not recommend a course or a product and earn a bit on the side?
Keep in mind that you will not be actively promoting any of these products, unless of course, your site is all about SEO. Then you will have to make a real effort to rise above the challenges this niche brings — namely, tough competition. One of the reasons SEO companies are willing to pay affiliates top commission is because of the stiff competition. You need a solid marketing and link building strategy in order to make it in this niche.
You're going to have your work cut out for you, but in the end, it will be all worth the trouble.
I hope you enjoyed this week's niche! Don't forget to hit the Share button below. I would love to hear your thoughts on this week's niche, or any suggestions you may have on a niche, so be sure to leave a comment too!

How to Make Money on Twitter

Regardless of whether you own a business or not, have a website or not or have a product to sell or not, it’s never been easier to make money with Twitter.

There are direct ways to make money with Twitter, which include promoting products through tweets and get paid to tweet to endorse products and services. And, there are indirect ways, which include building a mailing list to then profit from email marketing or by using the network as a traffic generation tool, sending followers to different places on the web.

Get paid to tweet is probably the most popular method of monetizing your Twitter account. The good news is, you don’t necessarily need to be a celebrity to endorse products and services.
Platforms such as www.sponsoredtweets.com and www.paidpertweet.com allow you to connect with advertisers so you can get paid to tweet.

How many followers you have, what industry you’re in and how engaged your audience is, will dictate how much you can get paid to tweet. Once your account is listed on these platforms, simply wait for offers to come through from advertisers.

Another direct method to make money with Twitter even if you don’t currently have a business or products of your own to sell, is by becoming an affiliate marketer.

Affiliate marketing involves selling other people’s products for a commission.

Popular platforms such as www.clickbank.com allow you to sign up for free as an affiliate and choose among thousands of different products in different markets (such as health, sports, travel, self help, etc…) the ones you wish to promote.

Once you have selected the products to promote as an affiliate, generate your affiliate link and simply publish a tweet which includes your link. You’ll be able to track your sales by logging into your clickbank account.

The key to success with this method, is closely monitoring which products convert into sales and which ones don’t so you can start focusing just on what works. You’ll have to make sure you don’t over promote affiliate links using this method, as your account can quickly raise flags and potentially get suspended.
Concerning the indirect ways to make money from Twitter, list building is among the most effective.

To capture people’s names and emails to then run email marketing campaigns, you will need a free offer to incentivize users to submit their details, an autoresponder system (such as aweber.com or getresponse.com) and set up a Twitter card.

A twitter card looks like a tweet with an image and call to action. The only difference, is that when people click on the call to action, their email and name will be automatically saved to your autoresponder system.

A Twitter card can be set up through Twitter’s advertising network. Simply go to ads.twitter.com and set up your Twitter card.
Lastly, the other indirect way to make money from Twitter is by using the social network as a traffic generation tool.

By including the link of your websites in your tweets, in your images, in your banner and in your bio, Twitter can soon become a good source of traffic.

You can also boost traffic by engaging in conversations on Twitter and mentioning your website when appropriate. To look for specific conversations and join them, use Twitter’s advanced search feature.

This feature will allow you to insert your selection criteria for the conversations you are after, and even the location of the people having these conversations.
Plus, if you generate enough traffic to your website, you can get paid by advertisers to market their products and services on your website.
